At each step
in the selection process you must be prepared to demonstrate
your best qualities and skills. Completing your application
is the first step. It is important to read the job announcement
so you may identify what qualifications, skills and experience
you will need to tell us about on your application. Be
sure to indicate dates and hours of work so that we may
count all of your relevant experience. If you are not
sure of the exact dates and you worked varied hours, provide
us with your best estimate of at least the month, year
and range of hours worked per week.
What
follows is an overview of the information contained in
the job announcement and tips on how to use it to complete
your application:
KIND
OF WORK: On your application form, include, in detail,
any relevant experience, paid or volunteer, you have that
is similar to the duties described in this section on
the job announcement. The description you provide will
be used to
evaluate the extent and degree of your experience.
QUALIFICATION
REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM:
All positions have minimum requirements. These are qualifications
you must have in order to qualify for a position, unless
substitutions are allowed. If substitutions are allowed
they will be mentioned under "SUBSTITUTIONS"
on
the job announcement.
SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS: Some positions will have special requirements,
for example: special licenses, bilingual abilities, etc.
You must meet these requirements to be qualified for this
position.
SUBSTITUTION:
Many positions will allow substitutions for part of the
minimum requirements. One that you will see often is the
substitution of directly related experience for the education
requirement or vice versa.
DESIRABLE:
Desirable qualifications are experience, skills and/or
training directly related to the duties of a position.
While these are not a minimum requirement for the position,
applicants who possess any of the desirable qualifications
will be considered a closer match for the job and therefore
a stronger candidate.
